UPDATE: One dead in Rockmart-area wreck, another airlifted

Update:

Georgia State Patrol released the name of a man who died in a wreck late Tuesday afternoon in the Rockmart area.

GSP announced this morning that John Landers, age 47, of Dallas, died of injuries sustained in the wreck on the scene following the 4:40 p.m. incident.

Polk Today initially reported this as a three-vehicle wreck per local officials, but GSP has noted that it was a two-vehicle accident that involved a white Kia Optima and a red Mercedes Benz. The Mercedes was traveling south on Coot’s Lake Road and the Kia was heading westbound on Highway 278 when the Mercedes failed to yield at the stop sign and pulled out into the path of the Kia, which was unable to stop before striking the Mercedes in the driver’s side.

The preliminary details are still being developed.

One person involved in the wreck was also airlifted to an area hospital for treatment in critical condition. GSP did not include in their preliminary report any details on that, or a third victim who was taken to the hospital via ambulance with injuries.
