A first “season” of Talking Points on Polk.Today is in the bag, and a new one begins with the first episode of 2021.
This new year is well underway, and everything seems to be happening at once just like in the year previous. But the first guest of Season 2 understands that progress works at its own speed, marching ahead toward project completions without thinking anything of what day or month it might be.
Just before the year got underway recently appointed Cedartown City Manager Edward Guzman took a few minutes out of his day to talk about what’s in store for the New Year for local residents to expect, and more.
Guzman, appointed by the Cedartown City Commission to take over for City Manager Bill Fann after his retirement, has spent his life locally growing into the position he now holds. He’s headed up efforts to bring in new business, projects, acted as Assistant City Manager and now fills the role heading up the city with an eye toward opportunities available as Cedartown continues to grow.
Tune into this first episode of Season 2 of Talking Points on Polk.Today to hear from Guzman about several project, how downtown might develop further with the update of alcohol ordinances, how infrastructure looks in 2021 and much more.
Additional topics of interest in this episode also include Guzman’s continued involvement in the recreation department’s soccer program as a coach, and the opening of Goodyear Park’s complex to the public here in recent months. He also talked about the recent hire of new Recreation Director Jeff Hulsey, coming into the program with the goal of getting local youth involved in sports and activities in the coming months after COVID-19 cases slow back down. Of note, Cedartown’s baseball program is already accepting applications for the spring 2021 season, and the basketball program should be getting underway for the year in the coming weeks.
One final mention: this episode was recorded prior to the January 4 work session (stories still in progress) and does not include one final interesting note coming in 2021: a Cedartown app for iOS and Android. (See additional coverage on that separately.)
