SOFTBALL: Team remains undefeated, tops 7-AA

A long, hot August schedule has seen the Rockmart Lady Jackets take on tough foes and region challengers, and everyone who has faced them on the diamond have come away with an L on their record.

Rockmart sits at 9-0 as they get into the first stretch of their region schedule, coming away with their last two 7-AA victories with shutouts against Haralson (5-0) and Gordon Central (15-0) as they are set to host Model later this afternoon for their next round.

The Lady Jackets have been hitting on all cylinders on both offense and defense. Senior leadership is making it possible for the big early season run, with Briley King, Analee Morris, Emma Hindmon and Emma Scott all leading the team in various categories (based on stats available at time of posting.)

King, for instance, is in her plate appearances sitting a .50 batting average and has two homers on her record for the 2023 season (so far.) That’s with a slugging percentage of .950.

Additionally, King and Morris are just behind sophomore Bri Davis in on base percentage. Davis has a OBP of .567, and King and Morris sit at .560.

Emma’s Hindmon and Scott are leaders for stolen bases. Hindmon has five so far, and Scott three.

The defense is stepping up this season as well, with three of the nine games finishing with shutouts. The Lady Jackets overall have given up 25 runs overall, compared to the 74 they’ve put up including a 15-0 run over Gordon Central.

Today’s matchup with Model is another opportunity to stay undefeated. Despite a 2-1 record in region play so far, the Lady Blue Devils are sitting at 4-5 overall with early season losses to Paulding County and Armuchee, and dropping games to Chattooga, Haralson County and Pepperell.

Model is on a two-game hot streak after a two-run win over Darlington last Wednesday, and a 11-4 region win over North Murray.

If the game even gets underway today.

Chances for thunderstorms are in the forecast throughout the day. Check back for updates on the schedule if RHS softball needs to postpone due to wet weather.
