SOFTBALL: Rivals finish out series in Lady Jackets sweep

The Rockmart Lady Jackets rule the softball roost this season in Polk County – at least in terms of the longstanding rivalry on the diamond between the cross-county rivals.

Rockmart took the sweep in the two-game series at home on Monday with a 13-1 win over Cedartown, taking the game to four innings after a breakout third going up 8 runs and adding another four in the fourth inning to bring it to a close.

Kiley Statham had a four RBI game against the Lady Bulldogs off of a homerun.

The Lady Jackets took the first game of the series at Cedartown in a 4-3 victory.

Kaylee Huckaby put in all four innings of work against the Lady Bulldogs, giving up only the single run off of four hits and an error, but threw six strikeouts in the outing on Monday.

McKinley Forsyth had a three-RBI night, putting up a hit and two runs on three plate appearances. MaryKate Dunn added two RBIs of her own off of two hits.

A 14-3 Rockmart extended their win streak to six off the victory, and head back into region play with Coahulla Creek this afternoon.

Cedartown dropped their last two of three and have Southeast Whitfield at home this afternoon.
