SOFTBALL: Lady Jackets season fate could come down to next two games

The Rockmart Lady Jackets softball squad are sitting with three more games left on the regular season – one of those today – and it could come down to whether they win the next two if they are going to be in a position to end up in the Class AAA state playoffs this year.

Rockmart sits at 12-10 on the season overall and 9-5 in Region 6-AAA play sitting at a fourth place spot as they head into today’s home stand against the LaFayette Lady Ramblers, then travel to face the team again on Wednesday.

With the Lady Ramblers at 9-3 in region play and sitting at second place in 6-AAA currently, Rockmart has a chance to flip the script and increase their region standing as they face the squad for the first time this year.

Rockmart has a good chance to come up with big wins today. They’re coming off a three-game week where the Lady Jackets went 1-2 in a 4-1 win over Coahulla Creek in region play last Thursday (Sept. 23) then fell in back-to-back region losses to Sonoraville on Friday in a 9-0 shutout on the road, and Ringgold in a 7-3 loss at home. The Lady Phoenix and Lady Tigers are first and third in the region respectively, and Sonoraville is the No. 1 team in Class AAA currently.

The Lady Jackets bounced back after a Sunday break hosting Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe in a 9-3 win.

Rockmart’s two-game series against LaFayette begins this afternoon at 5:30 p.m. at home, followed by the Wednesday trip to Walker County for a 5:30 p.m. start.

The Lady Bulldogs will wrap up the regular season against Bremen on Thursday in a home contest with the first pitch set for 5 p.m.
