SOFTBALL: Lady Jackets cruising to region title as they remain undefeated in 7-AA

The Rockmart Lady Jackets are right on track for another region title under their belts as the competition can’t hang with the home team this season in 7-AA.

Sitting at 9-0 in 7-AA, the Lady Jackets only have to clear a third place Model out of the way, then they can rest easy as they face Fannin and Murray County who are well out of the race for a region title this year to close out the season. Along with a game against Harrison next week, Rockmart is cruising toward victory, the playoffs and a trip to Columbus.

Rockmart’s 20-1 season only has the North Cobb blemish on the record, and that came against a team that also remains undefeated and is going to win Region 5-7A after remaining 17-0 on the year.

It is also worth noting the last two times that Rockmart went up against region foes, they put up an 8-0 shutout over Haralson County (second place in the region two games behind Rockmart) and 14-0 over Gordon Central (dead last in the region.)

The trip to Model today is just about the final test for the Lady Jackets on the year as they face a 8-8 Lady Blue Devils who sit at 5-3 in the region in third place.

Another advantage the Lady Jackets have at the moment: consistency. As a team they are hitting .391 heading into the final games of the regular season, put up 59 stolen bases and scored 175 runs against opponents. That includes 11 homers on the year.

Kaylee Huckaby and Emma Scott are having big years as well, both accounting for solid performances on the mound. Huckaby per MaxPreps is having a breakout year with 13 earned wins in the circle and an ERA of 1.84 through her time pitching this season.

Cheyenne Jordan has a batting average of .525 on the year, Briley King has put up three homers, and pretty much anyone who touches a bat or glove on the Lady Jackets squad is performing at their top (at least based on the stats available at time of posting.)

So one message is clear from the 2023 season for Rockmart: they are definitely in it to win it all.
