The Cedartown Lady Bulldogs are one of four – yes, four – teams who are heading to the State Tournament rounds in Class AAAA from Region 7-AAAA after a big win on the road in southwest Georgia this afternoon.
Makayla Jordon put up two homers – a grand slam and a two-run shot – and six RBIs in a 13-4 victory for the Lady Bulldogs. Reagan Clarke got a shock in the circle late in the game as the Cairo Lady Syrupmakers attempted to make a comeback and avoid getting run-ruled in the bottom of the fifth, but the defense held strong and gave up only three runs and took the win in Game 3 of the Sweet 16.
Cedartown took a Game 1 loss 5-4 on Tuesday, but came barking back in Game 2 and with Marycille Brumby and Reagan Clarke homers took a 15-7 win to keep the series – and the Cedartown season – alive.
With this afternoon’s win, the Lady Bulldogs now head back to town with their next trip a big one: the state tournament in Columbus.
They are one of four teams from 7-AAAA making it to the next round. Northwest Whitfield beat out Islands, Heritage Catoosa swept Thomas CC, and Central Carroll won big over Bainbridge to head to the start of the State Tournament with Elite Eight rounds starting next week.
Cedartown plays Madison County on October 28 at 3 p.m. to start their way into tournament play.
If the Lady Bulldogs come out with a win, they’ll face the winner of Central Carroll and the to-be-determined winner of the Jefferson-West Laurens series which split on Tuesday.
