Great news for UTC fans! Rockmart High School quarterback Javin Whatley will be coming your way later this fall.
The senior Jacket with lots of accolades under his belt this season signed the paperwork this afternoon in a ceremony at Rockmart High School surrounded by family, friends, teammates, coaches and administrators from RHS.
The celebration marked the opening of a new phase in his career with the Mocs on the college level.
The University of Tennessee Chattanooga is Division I FCS school, playing in the Southern Conference with the likes of Furman, Samford, The Citadel, Wofford, East Tennessee, Western Carolina, Mercer, VMI and UNC Greensboro.
The Mocs instead of playing a fall schedule for 2020 are going to be in a spring schedule this year, with an opener against VMI on February 20. They played one game this past fall against Western Kentucky in a 13-10 loss in Bowling Green.
They finished the 2019 season 6-6 overall.
Whatley heads toward a new team later this year with his own accomplishments, including being named the Georgia High School Football Daily Player of the Week for his performance in the opening round of the Class AAA playoffs. He played under center for a Jackets squad that went 10-2 overall, and he was named 6-AAA Player of the Year this past season as well. (More on that to come shortly.)
