The Rockmart Recreation Department is about to have a busy basketball season, and they need volunteers to take part and help ensure that the 2021-22 season goes right.
The department announced on social media earlier in the day that with signups complete for the youth basketball this year, every single age group has a full slate of teams.
“It’s the most we’ve ever had in the program’s history that we have been able to find records for,” Rockmart Recreation Director Jeff Holstein said.
With the nearly 250 youth who are signed up to play, however, Rockmart’s Recreation Department is about to have an influx of children and they are hoping parents and volunteers who want to help with coaching and aiding teams to get in touch.
The Recreation Department is currently picking teams for the year via drafts to determine where each youth will be playing this year. Holstein said that parent volunteers are currently getting information during those sessions.
Throughout the year since the COVID-19 pandemic has been ebbing, the number of youth participating in recreation sports is on the rise.
“Our need for volunteers, coaches, and parent volunteers is increasing dramatically,” Holstein said.
Those interested in helping can call the main office at 770-684-2706.
From the Rockmart Recreation Department’s Facebook page:
Basketball registration is over and every age group is full.
We have had a record number to sign up this year with almost 250 kids.
Growing is awesome but it doesn’t come without challenges. We are asking everyone to please help in anyway you can so we can make this season go as smoothly as possible. Together we can do this.
Go Jackets!
