Report: Holstein resigns from Rockmart Rec Director

The Rockmart Recreation Department is temporarily under the leadership of staff as the city seeks internal candidates to take over as the head following the unexpected departure of Jeff Holstein in recent days.

Holstein left the job in late August following the conclusion of Rockmart 150 celebrations, confirmed by City Manager Stacey Smith.

She said his resignation was unexpected, and was for personal reasons she said Holstein wished to remain private.

Smith added they do wish him well in his future endeavors.

PolkSportsWire attempted to reach out to Holstein for further comment, but he did not return our voicemail left last week.

Until they find a replacement, Smith stated the department is being handled by staff already within the department. Holstein’s departure comes as more than 500 youth signed up for fall sports per Councilmember Joe Henderson during their August session.

This year’s offerings also includes flag football for local youth.

Holstein was previously in the department under now-Cedartown Rec Director Jeff Hulsey, who left after a long career with Rockmart’s recreation department in 2020.

Check back for additional updates about the changes in the department as they become available.
