Tommy Atha taking over Bulldogs program after controversial change

Former Darlington Tigers Head Coach Tommy Atha has a new job, and its here in Polk County.
The Polk School District announced this evening in a post on social media that Atha will be taking over the Cedartown Bulldogs football program as the new head coach.
Atha, a longtime veteran of Northwest Georgia football, spent 21 years leading the Darlington Tigers to 17 state playoff appearances and had three region titles under his belt from 2009 to 2011.
“I am tremendously excited to be the next head football coach at Cedartown High School. There are very few programs and communities with such a rich tradition in the state of Georgia. To be the head coach of the Cedartown Bulldogs is an extreme honor, and I can’t wait to get started. Go Dawgs!” The district added in their release.
Polk Today reached out to Coach Atha earlier amid rumors he was about to be announced for the position. He had not yet provided a comment on the record.
Atha and his wife Cathe have four children.
He had been working for the Calhoun Yellow Jackets program prior to his hire for the Cedartown position.

Coach Atha brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the Bulldogs. He spent 21 seasons as the head coach at Darlington, where he led his teams to 17 state playoff appearances and secured three consecutive region championships from 2009-2011. After stepping away from coaching to pursue real estate, he returned to the sidelines as the offensive coordinator at Calhoun High School, where they captured the AAA State Championship this season! 🏆
Beyond football, Coach Atha has coached track and middle school girls’ basketball and taught civics, world geography, and American history. His experience both on and off the field makes him a tremendous addition to CHS!

Coach Atha and his wife, Cathe, have four children: Maggie Beth, Anna Claire, Tommy, and Katherine.
