Rockmart native Floyd’s 27 strikeouts ultimately backed up by bats in Game 3 finale
The Louisiana State University Tigers went through ups and downs in this year’s College World Series, but they ultimately came out on top and now they can celebrate after overcoming the odds and record-smashing performances in a dramatic finale on Monday night.
Rockmart celebrated alongside native son Ty Floyd as the Tigers finished off the Florida Gators on Monday night to win the College World Series.
The Tigers put up 18 runs as the bats got hot to roll over Florida after the Gators won Game 2 with a record-setting 24 runs.
Nine different teammates recorded RBIs in the Game 3 victory, and two different homers were knocked out of the park on Monday night by Tiger batters.
Floyd in Game 1 tied a CWS record 17 strikeouts in one performance on the mound in an opening finals victory over Florida. The Tigers overcame three elimination games after falling to Wake Forest in a game Floyd pitched to open LSU’s trip to Omaha.
He finished the season with 127 strikeouts in total.
Floyd finished out his junior year with the Tigers helping his team to gain the NCAA title in the Men’s College World Series. He’s the second title winner on a ball diamond this season from Polk County.
The University of North Georgia’s softball team took the Division II title, with Marycille Brumby winning a ring with the Lady Nighthawks back in late May.
