Looking for a place to hunt or fish this fall? If so, why not check out one of Georgia’s Wildlife Management Areas.
These locations are also known as WMAs and can be found across the state. They offer a wide variety of opportunities to hunt and fish.
JL Lester WMA is a small 477-acre tract located in the Antioch Community of Polk County. The area is best known for its small game field trial events, but also is home to whitetail deer, wild turkey, and dove. Youth hunters have the chance of getting selected to hunt the deer with firearms on two separate hunts.
They must apply for the hunts using their DNR Account at GOOUTDOORSGEORGIA.COM.
Adults can hunt deer with archery equipment during scheduled hunts in November and December. Turkey hunters can use shotguns and hunt the entire spring season.
During September, there are four specific dates for the youth and a supervising adult to dove hunt. Hunters are required to check or sign in at the check station on Antioch Road during designated hunts.
The WMA also has a lake on it that contains bass, crappie, catfish, and bream and is open year- round for fishing, except during scheduled events, which will be posted at kiosk.
All individuals over the age of 16 that enters the property must have a hunting/ fishing license or land use pass. For all rules and dates about any WMA visit WWW. GoHuntGeorgia.com, pick up a free hunting regulation at a local sporting goods store, or call the region office (706) 295-6041.
