A project long in the making is finally coming to completion and getting an opening day ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday morning.

The City of Cedartown’s Phase 2 of the Goodyear Soccer Complex is now complete, bringing 3 full-sized soccer fields, a skate park and parking lot are all now ready for public use after several years of work.

The city’s combined investment and grant funding from the state brought together the Goodyear Soccer Complex into a multi-use facility that replaces a long-empty area that once inhabited the Goodyear plant in Cedartown.

The city is now officially opening the whole complex on Saturday. The 10 a.m. event coincides with the opening of the youth soccer season for the recreation department on the new fields.

A parade will be held ahead of the start of the soccer season as teams get to celebrate opening days on the new fields.

The parade route begins at Lankford Corner, continues down Ware to South College Street, and then onward to West Avenue and Goodyear Park.
