FORECAST UPDATE: Temps back on the rise for the weekend

A couple of days of relief from a heat wave are done and gone, and now high temps are back in store for Polk County and the surrounding area for the rest of the weekend.

Keep the air conditioner on high and remain well hydrated today as the thermometer is expected to get up to 97 for the day per the National Weather Service forecast in Peachtree City. Sunday’s forecast calls for heat, clear skies and a high of 98. Expect lows overnight to get down into the 70s.

Look for high temps to continue through the coming week, along with chances of thunderstorms in the afternoon developing through until Friday.

NWS Peachtree City is calling for some of the temps to fall down in the the upper 80s by Friday, but look for highs in the 90s to remain in place.

Polk County and the surrounding area got a slight relief from hot weather this past midweek, but the thermostat was turned back up into the 90s on Friday.

The forecast across the nation is calling for a rise in temperatures, ranging from mid 80s up in Minnesota and Maine up to nearly 110 in spots like Las Vegas and Phoenix.

Heat waves are just the tip of the problem for some folks across the nation. Hundreds of thousands of Houston residents remain without power after Hurricane Beryl made landfall last week, and as it moved inland left several areas with multiple inches of rain.

Vermont residents are among those dealing with record flooding due to the remnants of Beryl, where at least two have died while operating vehicles and were swept away by the water.
