The Rockmart Yellow Jackets took a big win in their road trip to Dalton, and their 2-1 record earned them a 9th place ranking in the AJC’s poll this week.
The Jackets might have taken an early-season loss to Rome (who got knocked out after a loss to Cherokee in Class 6-A,) but have since bounced back with back-to-back wins over rival Cedartown and in their first region win against Coahulla Creek.
A 2-1 Rockmart team sits atop the region according to Maxprep’s current rankings ahead of LaFayette, Adairsville and North Murray, all who won their region opening games this past Friday.
This is the first season the Jackets have played in this region, back up to Class AAA after a stretch in Class AA and playing in the region mainly with Floyd County foes.
The AJC’s poll has Cedar Grove atop the state rankings, with a Crisp County undefeated 3-0 team in second and Oconee County in third with a undefeated 3-0 record as well. Peach County, Greater Atlanta Christian, Pierce County, White County, and Westminster (Atlanta) round out the teams ahead of the Jackets in the ranking. Sandy Creek, formerly a Class AAAA region foe of Cedartown’s, has the 10th spot.
Rockmart next faces Sonoraville (at 0-0 in the region) in their return trip home this week.
