FOOTBALL: Rockmart shuts out Murray County for 49-0 region win

The Rockmart Yellow Jackets remain perfect in their region schedule and at the top of 6-AAA after another big win on Friday night at home over the Murray County Indians, 49-0.

Rockmart opened scoring on Friday night with a fumble recovery by Daquan Banks on defense ran back for a touchdown after a blocked punt, then proceeded to add three more touchdowns before halftime and another three in the second half with a defensive effort to keep the Indians off the scoreboard completely.

The Jackets forced two fumbles – one resulting in a touchdown, the other a turnover in the second half that allowed Rockmart to drive and go up 35-0 in the third quarter – in the effort against Murray County.

That put the Jackets at 295 points scored this year against opponents on their schedule and continues their win streak to a sixth in a row.

Rockmart quarterback Javin Whatley, running back Keyshaun McCullough, wide receiver Dennis Sims, a pass connecting JD Davis with Jakari Clark, a 44-yard run from Lanear McCrary, were among some of the notable performances in the game on Friday night versus Murray County.



Per Maxpreps summary of the game, the Jackets put up 374 yards of offense in the matchup with the Indians.

With the win, Rockmart moves to 6-1 overall, 4-0 in region play. They are ahead of LaFayette, Adairsville and North Murray in the playoff hunt currently in 6-AAA.

Next up for the Jackets is a November 6 trip to Adairsville to face the Tigers, who took a win over Sonoraville on Friday to move to 5-2 on the season and 4-1 in region play.
