FOOTBALL: Jackets break single-game scoring record in Murray County win

The Rockmart Yellow Jackets were already up big in the first half against the Murray County Indians on Friday night at halftime. Even during a second half with the younger kids in the game, they couldn’t be stopped.

The Jackets – sitting at 55-0 at halftime – pulled their starters and added two touchdowns in the third quarter and a field goal in the fourth to set a record 72-0 final score victory in their latest region win.

JD Davis went 7 of 9 for 186 yards and three touchdowns and Jojo Haynes ad six carries and 178 yards and three touchdowns himself on the night as the Jackets put up 618 yards of offense against an Indians squad who sits at 1-7 on the year.

Rockmart’s Cam Ferguson and Brett Washington also had scores on the night. Ferguson netted a touchdown and Washington two in the game. Junior Dennis Sims pulled in one of the three touchdowns on the ngiht after he put up two receptions for 70 yards.

Jakari Clark had 105 yards in receptions on the night bringing in four passes in the win.

Rockmart now sits at 6-0 in region play and 6-1 overall, sitting neck and neck with Ringgold for leadership of 6-AAA.

The Jackets host Adairsville for a return home this coming Friday, October 22. They’ll head to LaFayette following that and then host Ringgold for the final game of the regular season and likely to determine the fate of the 6-AAA crown this year.

Based on a search of the Georgia High School Football Historians website, no other Jacket squad has ever scored as many points in a single game and kept the other team off the scoreboard.

It is the second week in a row the Jackets have left the field with a team gaining no points on them at all on the road after last week’s LFO win.

Check back for highlights this coming week of the Adairsville-Rockmart game in PSW Video coverage coming up.
