FOOTBALL: Cedartown picks up Week 2 win over Berkmar

It was predicted to be a bigger win for the Bulldogs, but a win is a win.

Even if it wasn’t a masterpiece.

After pushing ahead with mostly a ground game over the Berkmar Patriots last Thursday at The Doc, the Bulldogs got a little rhythm going in the second half and added two more touchdowns to the scoreboard before giving up one and finishing off the night with a 27-7 win.

Cedartown’s combo of running backs all picked up positive yardage – including quarterback Isaiah Johnson under center – as Cedartown put up 211 yards on the ground and just 27 in the air for the win.

Tae Harris, Demarcus Gardner and Isaiah Johnson all got chances to score on the night, and Edgar Bermudez put up a pair of field goals in the first half and was perfect on PATs as the Bulldogs only gave up the late touchdown to the Patriots on the night.

Most the game was a fight between offensive and defensive lines, with the Bulldogs commanding the field over Berkmar for much of the night on both sides of the ball.

Chris Johnson, Juelz Davis and Jakoby Diamond all picked up sacks on the night.

The Thursday night victory came just a few days after Cedartown won over Rockmart in the season opener spread over two nights, and they finally got a full break this week before tomorrow’s trip to Alexander.

The Bulldogs enter the upcoming trip to face the Cougars come into this one at 1-1 in early season play. Alexander lost their season opener in Week 1 to Sprayberry in a 28-0 shutout at home, and then won a 15-14 close one at Lasseter last Friday night.

The Cougars will be hosting the Bulldogs in Douglassville at 7:30 p.m.
