FOOTBALL: Bulldogs finish off Bruins in region win to keep in lead of 7-AAAA

The Cedartown Bulldogs faced a few hiccups against the Northwest Whitfield Bruins in their return home after a three-game run of road games, but they came out with a big win in region play to continue to dominate the area.

Friday night’s victory included a 190-yard, three-touchdown performance for Harlem Diamond, who ran two 60+ yard runs for scores in a game that saw the Bulldogs take a 57-23 win.

The big play of the night came near the end when a punt block by Jayden Weems was picked up and taken in for six, which was also the final touchdown of the night.

Cedartown put up 566 yards of total offense in the victory, with Reece Tanner going 8 for 9 in passing with 80 yards in the air including a touchdown pass to Demario Sims in the second quarter.

The Bulldogs put up 22 first downs, only had to punt twice – once on their first possession of the game – and gave up 75 yards in penalties with 7 flags thrown against both offense and defense.

The Bruins ended the night with 352 yards – most of those in the air – and didn’t cross the 50 yard line through much of the first half.

Check back next week for coverage from Cedartown’s Homecoming game against the Ridgeland Panthers, who sit at 1-6 on the season and are coming off a region loss to Pickens County 45-8.
