Floyd gets through five full innings in CWS

Wake Forest tops LSU 3-2, Floyd tops 100 strikeouts

Ty Floyd had one of his best pitching performances of the year in the College World Series, but a tough sixth inning saw Wake Forest batters get the best of him and ultimately the Demon Deacons took a 3-2 win over the LSU Tigers.

Floyd ended his night with five full innings of work, putting up 10 strikeouts and two walks heading into the sixth before he was relieved after he gave up two hits, two runs and two throwing errors on the night.

LSU prior to that had been up 2-0 over Wake Forest, but the tying sixth inning gave the Demon Deacons the chance to come back and the No. 1 team scored again in the 8th to take the lead which they held through the top of the ninth and finished off the Tigers on Monday night.

Floyd’s full 5 innings ended with 2 hits, 2 runs, 2 errors, 10 strikeouts and 4 walks.

Though he got most of the work on the mound on Monday, he wasn’t credited with the loss.

The Tigers are still in it though. They face SEC foe Tennessee today at 7 p.m. in an elimination game. LSU will have to win again, then face Wake Forest a second time on Wednesday evening, and if they can topple the top team in the nation in Game 2, they’ll have an if-necessary Game 3 with Wake Forest on Thursday at 7 p.m. as well.

The finals of the CWS start on June 24 in a three-game series.

An additional note for the season: with Monday’s performance on the mound, Floyd now has 103 strikeouts in total on the season. He’s only walked 36 batters and holds seven wins on the year in tarts. His ERA sits at 4.45.
