The Cedartown and Rockmart cross country squads are getting ready for another season where they hope to go the distance with the top speed during the Fall 2023 season that will get underway later this month.
Rockmart’s Cross Country team opens with the Rockmart Early Bird event set for August 19 at home. The opening event of the season starts at 8 a.m. Cedartown is heading to Jasper for the Pickens Preview on the same day to open their season.
Bulldog runners will be taking part in the Front Runner 5K at region foe Heritage-Catoosa in the Ringgold area on August 24.
Rockmart will be at Ridge Ferry Park (time TBD) for the 31st annual Ridge Ferry Invitational for Cross Country squads across the region. The August 26 race is one of the biggest events of the season for teams, and could be Rockmart’s opportunity to get to the head of the pack early.
The Jackets and Bulldogs will be spending a lot of time traveling around the region to runs, but will get a chance to host later in the season.
Cedartown is back in action on September 2 with the Run at the Rock at Cartersville High School. The Bulldogs are back on the road again on September 9, with the JV squad the following weekend at the Haralson County Invitational, and the varsity squad at the Carrollton Orthopedic Run in Carrollton. Rockmart will be running in Carrollton as well at the event held at Carrollton Elementary at 10:30 a.m.
The Jackets are at the Adairsville Invitational at Manning Mill Park at 4:30 p.m. on September 14, followed up with a trip to the Wildwood Run at Edwards Park in Dalton on September 18 at 5 p.m.
On Sept. 16, Cedartown will be running in the Wire to Wire event in Cartersville.
Rockmart takes part in the Wingfoot Classic in Cartersville at Sam Smith Park on September 23, start time at 7:40 a.m. Cedartown on the same day is at the Darlington Fest in Rome.
Cedartown gets to host their home meet on September 26.
The Rockmart Invitational held at Prospect Valley Golf Course at 4:30 p.m. is coming up on October 3. The Jackets are hosting several teams, including the Bulldogs squad.
On October 17, the Jackets and the Bulldogs are both taking part in the Fast Break Challenge at Heritage High.
The 7-AA region run is coming up on October 24, host to be determined along with the start time. Look for the 7-4A run around the same time, but a date wasn’t immediately available on the CHS schedule shared with PolkSportsWire.
The GHSA state meet is set for November 5 in Carrollton.
