The Rockmart Yellow Jackets second season has sadly ended early as the boys hosted their first round game, but fell short to the visiting squad in the Class AA playoffs.
The 2023-24 season ended at 20-8 (8-4 in 7-AA) when they hosted the Walker Wolverines on Wednesday evening and came up short in a 12-point loss, 64-52.
Walker took an early 23-19 lead in the first quarter, and then the Jackets got back on track and outscored the Wolverines in the second 17-15.
Walker kept steps ahead in the third and fourth, the last quarter topping the Jackets 11-4 as the final minutes ticked down and the season ended abruptly for Rockmart.
Senior Treylin Davis who was tops in offense for the season wrapped up his year with 20 additional points, with Hunter Atkins putting up 13 points and 10 points for Samuel Johnson.
Walker’s Moustapha Diop notched 18 points on the board, and Xavier Berry put up 16 points and 11 points for Anderson Carey.
The Wolverines move onto play Athens Academy in the second round.
7-AA champ Model moved on in the playoffs and faces Eagles Landing Christian Academy in the Sweet 16. Fannin County fell to South Atlanta and North Murray fell to North Cobb Christian.
