The basketball season is still in the early stages – with players now available from the football team for Rockmart, and still waiting for Cedartown boys – and the girls teams are getting in games as well amid the beginning of the 2020-21 season.
Here’s a rundown of where teams stand at the moment, and expect coverage to split off in the future to individual game coverage coming soon (and video!)
Check back on Sunday for coverage from the Adairsville-Rockmart matchups at home.
Meanwhile, here’s where things stand in the early season:
Lady Bulldogs take two early wins
The Cedartown Lady Bulldogs are fighting their way through early season matchups, having already taken a double digit win over Cartersville and Southeast Whitfield in non-region and region play.
The Lady Bulldogs are 2-0 with the 58-38 win over Cartersville on December 5, and the 52-35 win over Southeast Whitfield on the road this past Tuesday.
Under the leadership of new head coach Levi Wigley, the Lady Bulldogs should be back in action in a rescheduled matchup with Spring Garden in the coming days. Check back for additional info on that shortly.
Of note, Qiana Watson put up a 19 point game over Cartersville in that win.
Cedartown gets first win over SE Whitfield in region play
The Cedartown Bulldogs early season have seen some struggles, but they got their first win over the past three games this past Tuesday on the road.
The Bulldogs took a 46-44 win over the Raiders, after taking a 60-51 loss to Cartersville and a season opening loss to South Paulding 51-35.
MJ Holiday put up 17 points in the road victory to lead the Bulldogs in scoring over Southeast Whitfield in the two point win.
They are supposed to play Northwest Whitfield at home next Friday in their next contest, followed by Sonoraville on the road in tournament play on Dec. 28.
Rockmart teams struggle in opening games
The Rockmart football season is over, so expect a bit more positive action for the Jackets basketball program as the seasons transition, but for now they are facing a 1-2 start on the year.
Vic Calhoun’s squad took a season opening win over Villa Rica 91-79 on the road, but then have fallen in a 79-42 road trip to Rome, and a road trip to Walker County in a 75-47 region loss to LaFayette this past Tuesday.
The Lady Jackets also haven’t had much luck so far this year. They are 0-2 after a 74-62 loss to Sonoraville to open the year, and a 86-79 loss to Rome on the road as well.
Both teams are back in action tonight at home hosting Coahulla Creek in region play, and take on Adairsville tomorrow evening as well.
