The Rockmart Yellow Jackets? Oh, they have a hot hand heading into the Class AA playoffs.
After going undefeated in Region 7-AA this season, the Jackets are now heading into the playoffs with a 24-6 record and the opportunity at a state title run.
First things first, they have to get past the first round which opens on Thursday at home.
Rockmart hosts Drew Charter out of Region 6-AA after the Eagles finished their regular season at 13-11 with a loss to Walker in region play.
The Jackets came off of a three-game sweep of Model to close out their regular season on Thursday with a 7-6 victory to round out the series.
Rockmart’s season didn’t start out on a strong foot, but after a 4-game streak in non-region play and a couple of wins over Cedartown, the Jackets didn’t let off the gas much. They lost a 2-0 game to Cartersville and went down 11-2 to East Coweta, but every other comer on the schedule fell well short of Rockmart on the diamond this year.
In their perfect run through the region and regular season schedule overall, Rockmart put up 11 different shutouts over the regular season against region and non-region foes. And they haven’t lost a game in over a month.
If the Jackets overcome Drew Charter in the first round of the playoffs, Rockmart will get to play the winner of the Landmark Christian and Providence Christian matchup in the bracket. The two teams were second and third seeds in their regions respectively this year.
