WEATHER: Wind Advisory in effect until Wednesday morning; storms heading toward area overnight

Low humidity, high winds and a storm front coming are all reasons for concern – especially for spreading wildfires if flames are left untended – as the National Weather Service is putting a wind advisory in effect starting at 1 p.m.

NWS Peachtree City put a large swath of North and West Georgia on notice that winds are expected to begin gusting upward of 45 mph – with sustained winds between 15 and 25 mph – will begin later today and continue through the overnight hours until Wednesday morning at 7 a.m.

Rain and thunderstorms are expected to begin tonight after 10 p.m. and continue through the early morning hours. A bulk of the stormy weather is expected between 3 and 4 a.m.

At least 3/4 of an inch of rain is expected, with upward of an inch of rain predicted.

NWS forecasters have sunshine returning on Wednesday, but temps are going to fall as the front moves through. Expect a windy day as well, with sustained winds of 10 to 20 mph, and gusts up to 30 mph.

Overnight temps for the midweek are dipping down to 32, and will remain windy with gusts up to 25 mph.

Look for sunshine and a high of 54, with more wind and gusts again up to 25 mph. Look for a low of 33 overnight as winds die down.

Temps should start rising heading into the weekend. Friday’s partly sunny skies come with a high up to 66, and chances of rain return for the weekend with highs into the 60s. One last dip on Sunday down into the 50s and lows into the 30s will potentially bring a final frost for winter as a warming trend is expected next week.

Check back for more updates on the potential for severe weather and windy conditions as needed.
