Stormy weather is coming to Polk County tonight, and there are chances that it could be severe as local Emergency Management officials are keeping an eye on the forecast from the National Weather Service office in Peachtree City.
Officials are concerned that increasing risks are growing for Polk County as the risk level is currently at a 2 of 5 in the predictions including much of a line of West Georgia extending out toward the I-75 corridor. Expect the strongest storms to move through the area between 3 to 7 a.m. overnight, per the NWS forecast.

The risk of tornadic activity is below 10%, but chances for severe winds are above 15% starting later today and growing through the overnight hours into Sunday morning. Isolated damaging winds up to 60 mph are possible.
Any tornadic activity is expected to be isolated, and remain west of Georgia.
Meteorologists in Peachtree City are calling for at least an inch of rain, potentially two in some areas as the storm system moves through by Sunday afternoon.
Overcast skies and temps for the day are remaining below 60 (58F) for the day, and expect a mild end to the year heading into the New Year’s Eve night, but then 2025 is going to start out a bit chilly.
Sunday’s forecast calls for storms early, then the weather begin to clear up by the end of the day. Polk will be partly cloudy overnight, and mostly sunny heading into Monday with temps up into the 60s. Chances for rain return on Monday night and into Tuesday, with the year potentially ending on a soggy note.
