WEATHER: Flood watch in effect until Friday 8 p.m.

The National Weather Service now has Polk County and the surrounding area under a flood watch through Friday evening as the remnants of Hurricane Francine continue to impact the area.

Forecasters from Peachtree City have the flood watch in effect until 8 p.m. The wind advisory that was put in place earlier this morning continues until 5 a.m. on Friday morning, September 13.

Rainy weather remains to the west as the rotation from the former hurricane continues to draw moisture from outer bands up from the gulf coast, and is currently spawned a line of thunderstorms from north to south over central Alabama.

Most of the remains of Francine are currently sitting over portions of West Tennessee and Northwest Mississippi, and most of Arkansas and southern Missouri.

Chances for rain have decreased throughout today, meaning much of the wet weather expected hasn’t arrived yet. Greater chances for rain and thunderstorms are in the forecast for Friday and the weekend as the forecast shifted from much higher chances of rain for today earlier this morning.

Temperatures are expected to remain in the mid to upper 70s through the rest of the week and into the weekend, with lows down into the 60s during the overnight hours.
