Enjoy this final mild day of 2024 – and good riddance to a wild year in all aspects of life in Polk County and beyond.
National Weather Service meteorologists in Peachtree City have the forecast ending the year with a high of 62 on the day, and down to 36 overnight for New Year’s Eve celebrations to feel a bit chilly across the area (at least those held outdoors.)
Make sure to bundle up for those who are heading down to spots like Tallapoosa for the Possum Drop, or up to Rome to watch the fireworks. (Hiram has a New Years Event going on as well.)

Then the temperature is going to feel cooler over the following days to open 2025. New Year’s Day, and the following days to close out the week are all expected to have a high (at the moment) of 51 degrees, and dip down in the 20s overnight over the following three days.
Polk will definitely start feeling the chill of old man winter heading into the weekend, when temps are expected down into the 40s and low 50s through Saturday and Sunday and down into the 20s overnight.
There is a chance of showers in the forecast on Sunday during the day to end the first weekend of 2025, and a likelihood of rain (up to 60% currently) heading into Sunday night. Unfortunately, snow isn’t in the forecast with a low only down to 34, and chances of rain on Monday to open the first full week of the year with partly sunny skies and a high of 52.
Check back for more on the forecast to come as well-below freezing temps are a possibility in the near future as winter sets in for the start of 2025.
