WEATHER: Chilly day to give way to wet weather on Sunday

One more day of sunshine is in store for Polk County as the National Weather Service in Peachtree City predicts rain is on the way again to cap off the weekend.

Look for sunshine to dominate the day with a high of 47 and a slight breeze, but clouds are moving this way as rain is expected for Sunday. Expect a low down to 31 overnight and a calm wind with partly cloudy skies.

Wet weather is expected to begin after 1 p.m. on Sunday, and a high of 50 is expected for the day. Look for winds between 5 to 10 mph. Rain chances sit at 60% for the day, but then increase to 100% overnight.

Sunday night’s low is down to 45 with winds between 10 to 15 mph, and gusts as high as 30 mph.

Heading into the start of the first full week of the New Year, Polk County is forecasted for a high of 49 and down to 22 overnight, with mostly cloudy skies dominating and windy conditions throughout. Gusts could go as high as 30 mph.

Look for sunshine to return as fronts push through by Tuesday, with a high of 41 and down to 20 overnight. That Polar Vortex bringing below-freezing temperatures will begin to impact the area with highs nearing 40, and lows down into the teens through the rest of the coming week.

Expect those overnight below-freezing temps and highs hovering in the 30s through Saturday, and somewhat “warmer” weather into the 40s during the day and down into the 20s overnight heading into the middle of January.
