WEATHER ALERT: Cooler temps bringing area frost in coming days

Summer is waning away (maybe not completely just yet, but we’ll get there) and now fall is in full swing as the temperatures are dropping – and the first frost of the season is expected in the coming days.

That’s right, FROST. IN OCTOBER.

Years past, October has proved to be a real scorcher of a month but the 2024 edition of the month seems to be providing a cool down overall following the threats of hurricanes hitting the southeast (and potentially more on the way.)

For now, the only thing that locals need to worry about is morning temperatures dipping down toward the freezing mark starting on Wednesday night and into Thursday morning.

Overnight lows are down to 37F according to the National Weather Service forecast in Peachtree City.

Wednesday highs are only up to 61F with a low down near the freezing point of 33F overnight, with winds coming in to help keep the rest of the week cooler than the average.

Thursday’s forecast calls for a high 65F and a low of 34F, and then Friday a high of 69F and a low of 39F, with temps for the weekend into the low to mid 70s and remaining in the 40s.

Frost is expected around the area overnight and into the early morning hours through the rest of the midweek and into Friday morning as a result of temperatures dropping.

Look for the thermometer to hit around 77F by next Monday.

The good news in all this cooler weather is thanks to a cold front settling over the eastern half of the United States through the rest of the week, expected to keep weather overall cooler than average for Polk County over the coming days.

Additional positives is that currently the National Weather Service is not tracking any new major tropical developments, potentially providing some relief to areas hard hit by back-to-back storms over the past two weeks.
