VOTE 2024: More than 1 million take part statewide during first week of Early Voting

Regional count passes 40K mark

Early voting on a state level is well past the 1 million ballot mark as of Monday morning, and that total is increasing by the hour as the first week ended on Saturday and the latest results from elections officials have been posted.

The tally as of today sits at just under 1.4 million votes – including some figures that are being updated as of this morning as well from metro county precincts sending their data live to the Secretary of State’s office.

The state launched a new tool to help keep track of early voting figures compiled on the state level, with the ability to take a look at some of the data points coming in county-by-county as well.

Local offices across the state are also posting their own results online, including those here in the Northwest Georgia area. Those figures at week’s end were well past 40,000 early ballots cast.

Here’s a rundown of how Early Voting turned out for the opening week in the area:

NOTE: Voting figures may not include totals with absentee ballots returned as part of the above tallies presented. Data was compiled from the Board of Elections postings for Bartow, Floyd, Haralson, Paulding & Polk counties individually.

Bartow

Early voting precincts in Bartow County have been bringing in thousands over the past week, their total surpassing the 6,000 mark as of close of business on Saturday, October 19.

Their precincts at the Bartow County Elections Office and the Cartersville Civic Center have tallied some 5,000+ votes apiece between them from Oct. 15 through Oct. 19. Another 935 have sent in their absentee ballots out of 2,316 sought from their Board of Elections for voting by mail.

Bartow’s precincts at the Civic Center and Elections Office remain open this week, with additional precincts opening next week for expanded early voting access.

Floyd

Just like their neighbors to the east, Floyd County is seeing high turnout volume after the first week of early voting. They put up 11,211 early ballots cast (absentee numbers not immediately available with that figure) at three different precincts open from Oct. 15 through Oct. 19.

Floyd averaged more than 2,000 voters a day during the first week the polls were open at their three locations. Saturday voting was only available at the Elections Center.

Haralson

The Haralson County Courthouse was busy all last week as more than 3,000 people came to cast a ballot in the election during the opening week of early voting. Some 3,517 ballots were recorded from Oct. 15 through Oct. 19, including the absentee ballot count.

Early voting continues at the Courthouse through the rest of this week and for a second Saturday early vote.

Paulding

The highest total for early voting so far remains in the nearly-Metro county of Paulding, where officials counted 24,297 ballots cast during the opening week at just one location (including absentee ballots.) Additional polling places are set to open next week for the final week of early voting.

Polk

Rockmart and Cedartown’s precincts took in hundreds of registered voters daily through the first week of early voting, bringing in a total surpassing the 6,000 mark over the opening days. Cedartown took in more than 3,000 voters, and Rockmart is closing in on the 3K mark as of close of business Saturday, Oct. 19.

Voters have also sent back 265 absentee ballots as of Saturday as well.

Early voting continues at both precincts this week, through Saturday and next week through Nov. 1.
