Polk County Sheriffs Office Sgt. Barry Henderson’s condition is finally improving and he may be able to move to Emory after nearly a month in the hospital at Northside on a ventilator.
This news came just a day following the latest update of no progress but stable condition for Henderson on Monday, and a WSB-TV report from Chris Jose about hopes from Henderson’s wife Chrissy for doctors to be more aggressive with his treatment.
Here’s the video from WSB:
Chief Deputy Jonathan Blackmon posted the following from the Facebook account of Lee Couch this morning following that news report’s broadcast on Monday:
Just wanted to give a glimpse into what we are dealing with on a daily basis at Northside Hospital Healthcare System. Yesterday after Chris Jose and WSB-TV ran the piece on my mom, she called to get an update early this morning on Barry. The nurse then stated to my mom that she was instructed by the Dr. to only tell my mom that Barry was stable and unchanged and was not able to get any information on his vitals. Mind you, she has had access to this information multiple times a day since Barry has been at the hospital initially on January 7th. This is just the lastest of many poor and unprofessional instances we have dealt with through the past weeks. If you have anyone at Emory, please help us get Barry there. It will save his life. It seems the latest update is that the family is just waiting for a bed at Emory’s medical center for Sgt. Henderson after his condition has improved – the ventilator now down to as low as 60%, instead of the 100% Henderson has been at for the past weeks. He’s suffering from both COVID and pneumonia.
Additionally, Blackmon was also able to share that prayers and the calls to State Rep. Trey Kelley and State Sen. Jason Anavitarte have provided help, along with WSB-TV’s Jose.
The family added that “I believe God is healing Barry!” and “Many have text, called and even mailed cards to CHRISY (thank you) Continue to pray, fast and believe!” in the latest update passed along by Chief Deputy Blackmon.
Along with the support from the community helping with their thoughts and prayers, the Sheriff’s Office has also organized a t-shirt fundraiser to help benefit Henderson and his family.

The above info shows what the front and back will look like, and you can call to make a purchase at 770-749-2901, or you can send a Venmo payment to @PolkCountySheriff to get a shirt that honors Henderson. They are $15 each. Here’s the Sheriffs Office Facebook page for more information.
