Expect heavy rainfall of at least three inches and likely more of rain in the coming days Tropical Cyclone #3 pushes ashore in Louisiana and heads toward North and Central Georgia – including Polk County.
The National Weather Service in Peachtree City is forecasting 3 to 6 inches of rain over the coming days – likely extending into the early morning hours on Monday and likely starting on Saturday as the tropical cyclone that formed earlier in the week in the Gulf of Mexico is set to make landfall by early Saturday morning in Louisiana, and begin quickly moving over Southern Mississippi, Central Alabama and be centrally located around the area of Northwest Georgia by 1 p.m. Sunday.
There’s a potential it might form into a Tropical Storm as it reaches warmer waters near land as it heads toward the Louisiana coastline, and remain a Tropical Depression as it makes it way inland through Monday, when it is expected to break up over the highlands of South Carolina.
Starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday through 8 p.m. Monday, the forecast calls for at least three inches of rain over the entire county area, with southern portions of the county expecting as high as six inches of rain.
portions of West, Central and East Georgia will get at least six inches of rain, including the metro Atlanta area.
Some thunderstorms are also expected to mix in with the heavy rain coming from the tropical depression.
Though the cone of uncertainty for the forecast could have the storm push further north or south, Polk County is likely going to see rainfall from the first storm to make landfall for the hurricane season, and is the third cyclone that has thus far been tracked this year.
Mostly cloudy skies are expected for the daytime tomorrow, with temperatures up to 82 for the day. The potential for wet weather to stick around is possible through early Tuesday, the forecast from Peachtree City reported.
Expect a flash flood watch for the county as the weather forecast develops.
