State law required two new appointees join Board of Elections from selections by Kelley, Anavitarte
Wayne Weaver and Alan Dean will be representing Polk County residents thanks to their names being forwarded by State Representative Trey Kelley and State Senator Jason Anavitarte, both given the opportunity thanks to state law to increase the Board’s numbers to five overall.
The pair were approved by the Polk County Commission to join the board at the start of 2024 after their names were brought forth by Kelley and Anavitarte. They were approved unanimously to serve.
They join Chair Richard Long, and members Dr. Bruce Bell and Elaine Boring on the board.
The new board members were appointed thanks to a new state law – HB 713 – which required local boards of election to increase members from three to five for the coming round of voting in 2024, starting with local and state primaries, and then a general election including the presidential vote next November.
Anavitarte forwarded the name of Alan Dean on a list of potential nominees who were required to sign up for consideration. Weaver was chosen by State Rep. Kelley.
