Election 2020: Goal of 13,000+ ballots cast met before Nov. 3 as Early Voting closes out

Record numbers of early voters came out this year already compared to years past, but a goal was set for the three weeks ahead of November 3 to get as many people into the polls as possible.

Elections Coordinator Brande Coggins said previously that the hope was to get 13,000 voters out of the way before the big day coming up Tuesday. That goal was met and surpassed with a few hundred extra to spare.

Friday closed out early voting for Polk County and the State of Georgia, and by the time 5 p.m. rolled around some 13,676 people stopped by the polling locations at the Board of Elections in Cedartown and the Nathan Dean Community Center in Rockmart to cast a ballot.

That number also includes the 2,658 absentee ballots that have been returned to the Board of Elections as well, either via the mail or the absentee ballot drop box in front of the old County Administration building at 144 West Ave., Cedartown. You can still drop your ballots off at the Board of Elections through Tuesday at 7 p.m.

All absentee ballots must be received by that point to be counted if they have not already been turned in.

Statewide, the numbers were also historic according to Capitol Beat News Service. In a posting on Saturday, Capitol Beat reporter Beau Evans reported that more than 3.8 million had already cast a ballot by the end of the three week period allowed for voting ahead of the November 3 election.

As of this morning, the U.S. Election Project’s tracking available online showed that 92,038,417 people had voted across the country ahead of Tuesday.

Check back on Monday for your full election guide going into November 3.
