Update:

Local emergency personnel are still out on the scene of a wreck in the area of Highway 278 and Atlanta Highway just outside of the Rockmart city limits, and the cleanup after is likely to keep traffic blocked in the area for the next several hours.

Per Polk County Police Assistant Chief Kiki Evans, the wreck occurred this morning when a tractor trailer struck a broken down truck.

The tractor trailer overturned, and spilled a load of gravel over the roadway. Both lanes of travel are blocked off from the wreck.

The driver of the tractor trailer was cut out of the vehicle after it overturned. Police noted that he was conscious, but was being evaluated by EMTs on the scene.

Police did not have an immediate estimate of when the roadway would open for travel again.

Drivers will want to detour around the area utilizing Yorkville Highway via Vinson Mountain Road if possible.

Officials are still working in the area, and traffic is blocked up to Yorkville Highway near the Paulding County line.

Please avoid the area and detour around, if possible.
