WEATHER: WAY TOO COLD! ‘Warm-up’ coming around the corner

Temperatures have remained below freezing since Sunday, but good news: warmer temperatures are around the corner per the National Weather Service forecast.

Based at least on Zorba’s thermometer, it was 15 degrees as the morning got underway in Cedartown on North Main Street, and was down into the teens across the area as well-below average temps remained over the area through the opening of the week.

Mundy’s Lake had a sheet of ice over the surface this morning as well as temps got down toward the single digits before sunrise.

Fortunately, ice will soon get a chance to thaw as temps increase above freezing today with a high into the mid 30s, but have a chance to become solid again as lows dip back down to into the teens overnight.

NWS Peachtree City has another round of sunshine in store for Polk and the surrounding area coming up on Thursday, with highs reaching up to 43 on the day, but should dip back down into the teens overnight.

Wind returns on Friday as temps hit 41 on the day, and gusts could get as high as 15 mph with mostly sunny skies as a front begins moving into the area. Saturday will be sunny and temps will get up toward 50 on the day, and down into the 20s overnight.

Following that up on Sunday, chances for rain return and temps remain in the upper 40s and down into the 30s overnight. Next week will start off with chances of rain as well, with highs in the 50s and down into the 30s.

The front bringing rainfall should move out by Tuesday and bring partly sunny skies, and a high of 49 as the month moves toward a conclusion.
