A couple of days from now, we’ll be back into winter temps for at least one more round as mother nature flips the script on the forecast again.
Before that happens, a serious note: Polk County is among North and Central Georgia areas that are in fire danger due to low humidity and breezy winds. Even with a forthcoming round of storms, that danger may extend over the coming days and breezy and gusting winds could impact that danger further as the week continues.
If you can avoid burning outdoors, please do so for the moment.
Now onto the good news: Temps today are up into the 60s, and then sunshine and up to 70 on Tuesday – but then look for storms and a big drop in the thermometer according to the National Weather Service’s latest update.
NWS Peachtree City is calling for potential for thunderstorms overnight Tuesday starting around 10 p.m. and stretching into Wednesday in the early hours, with chances of rain at 100%.
Temps will then start dropping following a Wednesday high of 64, down into the 30s overnight. Wind gusts on Wednesday will get up to 30 mph.
Look for the possibility of one last frost heading into Friday morning, with a Thursday low down to the freezing mark of 32.
Expect the weekend forecast to get up to the 60s, and down into the 40s overnight.
Next week will see a real swing in the forecast as highs reach up into the 70s, and down into the 40s overnight. By St. Patrick’s Day, temps will be 60 and down to 40, heading into the official spring season later this month – hopefully without a final freeze from winter’s fury.
