WEATHER: End of January warmup continues through Friday

Showers return before weekend sunshine opens February

Talk about a change in the forecast in recent days. Polk County has gone from bone-chilling cold earlier in the month to an ending that is near barbecue weather heading into the second month of 2025.

Forecasts from the National Weather Service call for midweek sunshine to dominate the skies over Polk County with some windy conditions through the day (gusts up to 15 mph,) and temps down into the 30s for one more night heading into the final days of January.

Then a real turn in fortunes is ahead for the extended forecast beyond. Temps up into the 60s during the day and down into the 40s and 50s overnight? That sounds like it is time to get out the grill almost. Thursday’s forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies and a high of 65, and down to 52 overnight.

January closes out on Friday with the thermometer up to 67 on the day and down into the 40s overnight, but the umbrella will be needed as NWS Peachtree City puts the rain chances at 90% to end the week.

February opens then with sunshine as the front moves through and highs up to 63 on the day, and a little too chilly for open windows weather down to 39 overnight.

Groundhog Day on Sunday comes with sunshine and temps up into the mid 60s again, and down into the 40s overnight, and Polk will start next week with sunshine and a high up to 70.

That’s right folks, the meteorologists have the forecast at 70 on February 3, 2025. A potential new record? Definitely a sign of early spring despite what the groundhogs have to say about it the day before.
