UPDATE: Police charge man in Monday night shooting

Rodney Lee Powell

Polk County Police charged a man who shot another during an argument on Monday night, and he remains in jail this morning without bond set.

Rodney Lee Powell, 52, listed in the jail as a Silver Creek address but had been living at the Collard Valley Road address, was charged after being taken into custody on Monday night following the shooting.

Chief Kenny Dodd reported Monday night that Powell and the victim had been arguing at the time of the shooting. Emergency personnel were called out to the Collard Valley Road address around 8:14 p.m.

Powell faces felony charges of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies, and reckless conduct.

He’s being held without bond set as of this posting.

The victim – who police have not yet identified – was reported to have been taken into surgery after being airlifted to an area medical center. His condition was unknown as of this morning.

Police reported last night the victim was shot and severely injured in his arm.

This marks the fifth shooting victim in just the past five days. A Friday night shooting saw four injured during a fight just outside of Rockmart.
