The Rockmart man who refused to come out to talk to police for more than three hours late Friday night remained in jail with bond denied and is facing a long list of charges, according to reports from the Polk County Jail.
Dustin Leggett, 22, of 547 Lane St., Rockmart, was charged with several felony and misdemeanor counts after he came out of his residence peacefully after tear gas was employed by members of the Rome-Floyd County SWAT team after midnight on Saturday morning. The stand-off began when Leggett is alleged to have come home and struck a woman in the face with a pistol, made threats to harm himself and others, and refused to come out when police arrived.
He had at one point turned his phone off and refused communications with officers, and also his father who was brought to the scene to talk to his son, but after police used gas to force Leggett out, he was placed under arrest and taken to the Polk County Jail, where he has remained since the weekend.
Leggett was charged with two counts felony aggravated assault, two counts of felony terroristic threats and acts, and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies. Misdemeanor charges included third degree cruelty to children, reckless conduct, and battery under the family violence act. An additional six counts of obstruction listed with his mug were not included in the online database of charges provided by the Polk County Jail.
