Federal officials are involved in figuring out what caused the tragic accidental death of a woman here in Polk County over the weekend.
The victim’s name is not being released at the request of the family, per Polk County Coroner Norman Smith, who is working with the Federal Aviation Administration alongside the investigation.
The 26-year-old woman died as a result of the fall from the sky on Sunday afternoon while taking part in a jump in the area around Skydive Spaceland on Grady Road. She was found in a field on Mullen Road.
Per a release from the FAA, they’ll be looking at several particular points that may have been a potential cause of the accident, including “the packing of the parachute, reserve parachute, and rules of flight for the pilot and aircraft.”
The incident took place around 4 p.m. on Sunday, the FAA noted. No specific time had been provided at the time of the incident on Sunday following the death of the young woman.
