Two arrested on multiple drug charges following traffic stop in Rockmart area

A Dallas man and a Rome woman were arrested in the early morning hours on Tuesday, July 21 after admitting to having marijuana in the car during a traffic stop, though police found much more.

Polk County Police reported that Deantrae Evans, 29, of a Dallas address, and Shameka Johnson, 24, of a Rome address, were stopped by officers at the intersection of Highway 113 and Highway 278 at the Raceway gas station at 1:12 a.m. on July 21.

After Evans admitted to officers there was marijuana in the car, the pair were taken into custody and the vehicle searched, where police found marijuana, cocaine and other unlisted controlled substances.

Evans remained in jail on a $36,000 bond for four different felony counts for various controlled substances, felony possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, felony possession of cocaine, and possession of tools for the commission of a crime, along with misdemeanor charges for failure to maintain lane, possession of marijuana and driving while license is suspended or revoked.

Johnson faced also faced four separate felony charges for possession of a controlled substance, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of the tools for the commission of a crime, and a misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession as well. She remained in jail on a $30,500 bond.
