A Taylorsville man remains in jail after a weekend incident where he was charged with kidnapping and exploiting a disabled person after he went to a nearby home and picked up a mentally disabled 24-year-old woman who was later found at Walmart in Rockmart, according to a release from the Polk County Police.
Ernest Eugene Meadows Jr., 33, was taken into custody at the Walmart in Rockmart with the victim on Saturday not long after it was reported the woman was missing from her home without reason on Relay Road.
In a release, police explained that Meadows had contacted the woman online, and got a hold of her address and came and picked her up. When they tracked the pair down to the Walmart in Rockmart, Polk County Police detectives learned that Meadows was a convicted sex offender. He was arrested without further incident.
He remained in jail without bail on charges of kidnapping and exploitation of a disabled person.
“The Polk County Police Department takes reports of this nature with the utmost seriousness. This is still an active investigation at this time. The Polk County Police Department would like to thank the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office and Redmond EMS for their assistance in this case,” Detective Caleb Bowman of the Polk County Police said in the release this morning about the incident Saturday.
He added that the woman who left with Meadows was returned home without incident.
