Paving work being completed by the Georgia Department of Transportation through major Rockmart thoroughfares is still underway, with a completion date of March 24 posted on electronic signage through the area.

Spring rainfall might call that timetable into question as the paving crews made it further down North Piedmont Avenue putting down new asphalt as of Tuesday. The project was approved on a state contract last year.

Remember, If you’re looking to get around Piedmont Avenue traffic, take Goodyear Avenue off of Nathan Dean Parkway and use Jones Avenue, then turn onto College Street and use it to get onto North Marble and around to West Elm Street, or South Marble until the DOT arrives. 

Old Cartersville Road over to College Street is also an option around North Piedmont Avenue traffic issues as paving continues. For those coming in from the west, turn ont West Elm Street off of Highway 278, or use Morgan Valley Road onto Church Street and turn onto Wayside Park to get around it as well.
