Storms, windy weather impact Polk overnight; power out to hundreds

Trees went down, power lines were severed and a brush fire was part of the impact felt by high winds and thunderstorms that moved through Polk County and the surrounding area overnight.

Polk County Emergency Management Agency officials noted that trees were down all across the area following the storm system that moved through starting just before midnight, and continuing through the early morning hours.

No injuries have been reported as of time of writing.

According to one local reader, at least one home was damaged by a tree falling through the roof during the overnight weather event. The Pinecrest Road residence in Cedartown was damaged by the tree fall, but can be repaired.

Georgia Power linemen will be busy throughout the region reconnecting residents with power. Hundreds spread across Polk County from Esom Hill to Silver Creek were knocked out thanks to the storms overnight. Additional outages have been reported in Haralson County and Floyd County following the overnight storms.

Power is out for hundreds of residents in Tallapoosa, Bremen, Buchanan to the south, and Lindale, Rome, Coosa and Armuchee to the north.
