Additional power outages have been reported around Polk and the surrounding area due to the severe weather moving through the area.
Alongside Lake Creek Road residents, those around Highway 27 North in the area around Meadow Lakes Golf Course are also without power this evening. Minor outages have also been reported around the Rockmart area, and throughout the Rome/Floyd County area.
Outages are also happening around Tallapoosa, Bremen, Temple and Villa Rica to the south.
The National Weather Service increased the ending time for a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Polk County to 9:15 p.m. as a line of storms continue to impact the region this evening.
That warning was issued at 8:33 p.m.
Hail, heavy thunder and lightning and downpours have so far been the experience for the area since around 7 p.m. when the opening salvo of stormy weather began to impact the area.

Power Outages according to the Georgia Power Outage Map include a stretch of residences along Lake Creek Road in Polk up through its transition to Reeceburg Road northward into Floyd County and the Lindale area.
Additional outages include some customers around the Felton area of the Southern Polk/North Haralson County lines, and outages north and west of Tallapoosa for a number of customers so far amid tonight’s severe weather.

That watch has been upgraded to a warning as storms have already began to impact the area, including sightings of hail on the western side of Polk.

It also fell around the area of Prior Station Road, Hwy. 100 and Cave Spring Road northward toward Floyd County.
Tonight’s warning for the severe thunderstorm extends to 8 p.m.

NWS Peachtree City put Polk, the surrounding area and much of Georgia under notice earlier in the evening that a severe thunderstorm watch was in effect through midnight, and now the first round of storms are heading this way.
Radar from the National Weather Service has the first round of thunderstorms moving into western Polk County and Haralson County as of this posting time, and more coming behind in a line moving southeast from middle Tennessee and Northern Alabama toward Northwest Georgia.
Some of these storms could produce damaging winds and hail. At least a quarter of an inch of rain is possible overnight, and potentially more with heavy rains produced by thunderstorms.
It is the latest line of weather to impact the area since the beginning of the year.
