Doyle Lee Allmon

A man with past run-ins with law enforcement was jailed during an early Monday morning traffic stop and faces drug charges after police found a bag of methamphetamine under the car, according to Rockmart Police reports.

Doyle Lee Allmon, 34, of a a Rockmart address, was booked by Rockmart Police into the Polk County Jail on Monday morning after the traffic stop at the Jones Avenue apartments when police spotted the car that pulled out in front of them around 2 a.m. had no functioning tag lights.

Usually this would be a warning and the driver would continue on their way, but Allmon had no license on him and tried to dodge the question of whether he was licensed to drive at all.

He initially only would tell officers he was just picking his girlfriend up from work, but once police found his license had been suspended since 2021, he was immediately taken into custody.

While police were working out the details of the situation, one officer searching around the car and with past knowledge of Allmon’s run-ins with law enforcement found a bag of methamphetamine on the ground under the passenger side of the car.

Police initially wanted to confront Allmon’s girlfriend about the drugs, but he immediately took responsibility for them. She did tell police that she wasn’t sure he was using again, but had suspected it.

Officers took Allmon off to jail, and allowed his girlfriend to return the car to the owner.

He remained in the Polk County Jail as of this posting on a felony charge of possession of methamphetamine, and misdemeanor charges of driving while license suspended or revoked and tag lights required.

His bond was set at $5,050.
