UPDATE: Polk County under Tornado Watch; Round of thunderstorms set to bring at least a half inch of rain to Polk County

UPDATE:

The National Weather Service has placed Polk County and several others surrounding in Northwest Georgia under a Tornado Watch through 5 a.m.

Others in the area and in the immediate path of a line of storms include Haralson, Bartow, Paulding, and Gordon Counties.

Please stay indoors and off the roadways for the time being. If you spot or hear a tornado coming into the area, take immediate cover in an interior room, closet, hallway or bathroom, or in a basement if one is available. Do not stay near windows.

The National Weather Service’s predictions for upcoming thunderstorms has been updated and the line coming from eastern Alabama should bring with it at least a half inch of rain overnight, and the potential for gusty and damaging winds as well.

Peachtree City forecasters call for new rainfall amounts of at least a half-inch of rain, and winds 5 to 10 mph and potentially gusty in heavy thunderstorm cells. Occasional cloud-to-ground lightning and isolated flooding are possible overnight.

Thursday will see the likelihood of additional rainfall through the day, with another half to three-quarters of an inch possible.

Please take caution if out on the roadways late in the evening and early in the morning hours.
